On Thursday, April 18th, Service-Learning at Northeastern hosted the Spring 2019 Service-Learning Reception & Virtual EXPO. This was the service-learning program’s second showcase of their re-imagined signature event.
Over 200 people viewed artifacts from this semester’s service-learning collaborations, hosted on the Virtual EXPO website, at viewing stations around the Curry Center Ballroom. Members of the Service-Learning community joined together to celebrate the many partnerships formed and projects created.
Premiering at the event was a new video by S-L Graduate Assistant Courtney Woodman, highlighting service-learning through the eyes of our students and student leaders. A big thank you to Tyler Nicholson, Sara Flynn, Adrian Forrest, and Elena Petillo for helping to showcase our program!
This semester’s Reception also included an acknowledgement and celebration of the 2018-2019 Course-Community Collaboration Award recipients. The partnership between the students in Dr. Mary Steffel’s Marketing & Society course and their community partner, Bikes Not Bombs, exemplified the S-L spirit. Everyone involved went above and beyond the expectations of their roles this semester, enhancing student learning and completing projects benefiting the community. Congratulations to Dr. Steffel, S-LTA Jessica Lynch-Faust, and Jennifer Licht and Angela Finney of Bikes Not Bombs for continuing to embody the mission of service-learning.
As always, our program is grateful for our fantastic network of community partners, faculty, and students. Thank you to the Service-Learning Teaching Assistants, Team Managers and Street Team members for all of your hard work in completing another successful semester and creating a fabulous reception. We would also like to recognize the Service-Learning Advisory Board (S-LAB), the Center of Community Service, and City and Community Affairs for their continued support of the program and our team.
