Observatory Hill’s 10th Annual Holiday Stroll

Black Gems Unearthed

What? Looking for something to do from the comfort of your own home? Black Gems Unearthed is an educational series on YouTube about the Black History of Massachusetts. This video series was created by Jazz Dottin, a resident of Massachusetts. The series takes the viewers around to different sites, educating about the history in this state and providing sources for further information.

Urban Nutcracker

What? Urban Nutcracker is a vibrant and diverse reimagined version of the classic show. It brings new life to an old show through a blend of cultures and various styles of dance. Created by Tony Williams, this program gives the opportunity to bring youth from different backgrounds together through the arts. It’s a great modern twist on a holiday classic that you won’t want to miss!

First Flag Ceremony, First Flag Raising, and Grand Union Flag

What? The city of Somerville continues its New Year’s Day tradition of commemorating The First Flag Raising performed by a fledgeling United States. The event reenacts the one that took place on Prospect Hill by General George Washington on January 1, 1776. Click here for more info.

Boston Children’s Chorus – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Tribute Concert

Ice Skating at Frog Pond

What? With picturesque Beacon Hill in the background, skating on Frog Pond at the Boston Commons is one of the things that makes Boston so terrific in the winter.  You can rent skates or bring your own. Be sure to warm up with hot chocolate, coffee, and other treats!

Cost? Tickets are $6 for those 58 inches or taller and free for those under 58 inches. Skate rentals are $12 for adults and $6 for children 13 and under. Locker rentals are $5.
