What is one thing everyone should know about Service-Learning?
Two things! 1. Service-Learning Teaching Assistants are amazing! 2. Students who may feel nervous about jumping into a community organization always find value in their experiences. For most students, these experiences provide a foundation for future study or employment. For other students, these experiences highlight what they do not want to do. Getting experience that helps you find the right path is worth it!

What is your favorite memory of Service-Learning?
I’ve been very lucky to have some of our community partners come into my class to lead lectures and discussions. Valerie Maio of BalletRox has led play activities in my Honors Seminar on the Science of Play. Her activities ranged from movement activities for preschool children, to how play can be used for leadership training for business executives. The class was so much fun, and in between the laughter and silliness, we all learned a lot about the applications of play in child and adult development.

If Service-Learning were a food, what would it be and why?
Anything buffet with a veggie option.
