Neighboring Communities Outdoor Spaces

What?

Looking to get some fresh air and enjoy the outdoors in the midst of all the social distancing? The four communities surrounding our campus each have lovely outdoor spaces to utilize. Remember to maintain distance from others to protect yourself and the people around you. Whether you are looking to go on a run/walk or read a book in the sunshine, these spots should be perfect! Some of these spaces may be restricted due to the pandemic, however some will remain accessible at all times.

Where?

  • Fenway: The Fens (part of Boston’s Emerald Necklace)
  • Mission Hill: Kevin W. Fitzgerald Park, McLaughlin Playground
  • Roxbury: Southwest Corridor Park
  • South End: Carter Playground, Southwest Corridor Park, Franklin and Blackstone Squares

When?

Whenever you want to be outside!

Bright Lights at Home

What?

Do you enjoy watching films and find that discussion is extremely important to viewing them? If so, then this series of events is perfect for you! This program will allow you to watch movies at home and discuss them virtually with others. Eight movies will be shown throughout the month of April and they are available on Netflix or Hulu. There will be live moderated conversations for each movie with directors and scholars.

Where?

Zoom via Emerson Bright Lights (aka the comfort of your own home).

When?

Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7pm, April 7th – April 30th.

Cost?

Virtual Concerts (various dates/times/artists)

What?

With live musical performances being cancelled, many musicians are taking to the internet to host virtual concerts. Take this opportunity to see if your favorite artist is hosting a virtual performance or check out a new artist/genre! Links to websites maintaining an updated list of concerts is included below. Some highlights include:

  • Live from Our Living Rooms Jazz Festival (April 1-7) with all proceeds providing emergency relief to New York City musicians
  • Billboard Live At-Home concert series with all proceeds going to a nonprofit partner of the artists’ choice
  • Together at Home concerts hosted by WHO and Global Citizens

Virtual Paint Nights (various dates/times)

What?

Looking to explore your inner artist? Tune in to a virtual paint night with various artists around the world, including Yaymaker, a prolific host of virtual paint nights. Multiple dates, times, and pieces are available. Artists will provide live, step by step instructions on how to paint the piece, just bring your own supplies. This is a good opportunity for some family or roommate bonding!

Outdoor Spaces

What?

In addition to the specific outdoor spaces mentioned above, there are many more spots in the city and neighboring towns to be explored. Again, due to the pandemic, it is possible these places do not have the same hours of accessibility as usual. Now is a great time to get outside and take a break from being indoors, but another reminder to maintain distance from others, even when outside, for everyone’s safety.
