Role within service-learning: Family Community Engagement Coordinator at Joseph J. Hurley K-8 School

What is one thing everyone should know about service-learning?

It is an opportunity to get out of your comfort zone and try new things for the first time.  It is an opportunity to build community and network while making a difference.

How are your values expressed through your community engagement and service-learning work?

I have two goals when it comes to community engagement and service-learning work. 1) I want students to have a purpose. I want students to feel fulfilled and that they’ve made a difference. 2) I want students to be able to say “yes, I learned something.” Through kindness, respect, and patience, I help SLP students make a difference in the lives of our kids.

If service-learning was a color what would it be?

Green – I feel it reminds me of change and making a positive impact on the world.
